Ciao Italy

May 08, 2017
The language, the food, the vino, gelato, the shopping, the sights, the history, the people... where do I even begin? Italy is beautiful and you could spend years just trying to see everything there.

Having friends all over the world is a great perk when you are a travel loving family! For Thanksgiving, we visited our bestest friends in Italy! Once again, I boarded the free rotator flight with both kids in tow to visit what is now one of my most favorite places ever. Thankfully, this trip on the rotator was uneventful as Sigonella is the first stop. Nick followed a few days later commercially.

Our days were spent checking out neighborhood parks, eating pizza, gazing at Mt. Etna (a beautiful, active volcano), listening to thunder rumbles and enjoying the sweet sound of rain (we were coming from Bahrain, remember?) ... we visited Tauormina, Agrigento, and Cantania.

Agrigento is a hilltop city on Sicily's southwest shore. It's known for the ruins of the ancient city of Akragas and the Valley of the Temples, a vast archaeological site with well-preserved Greek temples. While there, we had a rough lesson in learning Italians do not eat dinner as early as we are accustomed to, therefore nothing was open yet.

I'm often asked what is my favorite place that I've ever traveled to... while I don't have a #1, I would say Italy is one of my absolute, hands down, top places!
