Oshii Japanese Home Cooking

June 24, 2013
Today I had the incredible experience of learning a traditional Japanese meal in my own home taught by two local Japanese woman who run a housekeeping business.  This was such a fun experience to share with my sister, and two friends. The perk of having it in my own home, was that my little guy could run and play while we cooked. They bring all the fresh ingredients for the meal, and clean up while we ate! I love the Japanese culture and this was a fun opportunity to learn something new.

The Menu: Miso Soup, Japanese Rice, Gyoza, Omelette roll.

Washing the Japanese rice with water. This helps make it extra "sticky" aka easier to eat with chop sticks!
Whisking the eggs with chop sticks for the rolled omelette. Fun fact: It is not uncommon to eat raw eggs in Japan so while making this dish, our teacher tasted the yolk for the flavor. This is different for Americans who usually are advised not to eat raw eggs. As you can see the egg yolks are much darker too. From my understand salmonella is very rare here.
My sister rolling the egg omelette.

We could hardly wait for the soup and salad because we were so hungry by the time we were done!

Oshiii !! (so delicious in Japanese)
