We have just hit our 1 year anniversary mark in Japan!

Photo from our most recent family shoot |
July 18th, 2012 we arrived during the hottest month of the year, without a clue of what to expect. We didn't know what our sailors schedule would look like, we didn't have friends, a car, and we didn't know the language but we have come along way since our early days here.

Leaving for his first underway, 8 months old |
Out of the 12 months we have been in Japan, we have spent 9 of them apart. I often hear "I don't know how you do it!" But the reality is, when you are put in this situation, you just do it! There is no special answer to those questions, there is no other option! I chose to make the most of our time here, of course we miss our sailor terribly but he is comforted knowing how strong we are at home. Even though we've spent more time apart this past year then together, it has still been a great year for us. We made the most out of the family time we did have together, my sister was able to come visit twice, we have traveled the local area, experienced many once in a lifetime opportunities and made life long friends. Everyday is not easy but it's a true test of your personal strength!

It's always neat to look back and reflect on how much our mini sailor has changed over the months for the last year! Here's to another safe & adventure filled year for our family!
