A Nautical 1st Birthday

January 31, 2013
Living in Japan means having to prepare way ahead of time for anything you want shipped here, it takes generally 7-10 days for us to receive mail, but can take even longer in some cases. Including some of the birthday supplies I ordered took 2 months! I started planning this birthday party 6 months in advance.

The food consisted of a burrito bar: cilantro lime chicken, "Chipo.tle" style rice, and all the typical taco/burrito toppings!
Snack/Dessert table: Orange Jello Sailboats, Goldfish (Catch of the Day), Rice Krispies, Anchor Sugar Cookies and Cupcakes.

It all started with a piece of fabric I was inspired by. I made everything for this party myself using tutorials I found online. It was fun, and helped pass the time during deployment #1. I used my Cricut machine along with the "Life's A Beach" cartridge to create these decorations!

Anchor Shaped Sugar Cookies. I tried several recipes beforehand and these were by far the best I have ever had.
I ran short on time frosting them so I wishthey looked better but the homemade frosting tasted amazing!
You can find the recipe here: Thick, Soft Sugar Cookies
Butter-cream Frosting: Wedding Cream Buttercream

I also used the frosting on these Yellow cupcakes.

Decorate your own sailor hat station .

First bite of real sugar, ever! And only for awhile longer!
