Flying High in Singapore

September 07, 2014
It's no secret that we love to travel. My couches are worn, and my kitchen table is on it's last leg but we've been lucky enough to see more of the world than most ever will. I've been asked how we do it, and the truth is, saving and not buying items that aren't essential. Our home isn't overly decorated, we don't have fancy phones or cable. But in return, we see the world. Not a bad compromise to me! "Travel is the only thing you can buy that will make you richer." It's so true...

(I'm skipping the major details on this part to keep my blog somewhat off Google radar... for privacy reasons but those who are my FB friends have heard plenty about the competition our sailor was in.)

Last year we had the amazing opportunity to visit two amazing places (Sydney and Hong Kong) and 2014 has been no exception! Our year started out with the news that our sailor had won a title that puts him at the top tier of his peer group, that afforded us a trip to California for the next level. It was amazing trip where we made friends that will last a lifetime, and received mentorship that changed us forever.  From there, we went to the next tier in Hawaii.

Hawaii was beautiful, and we took in all the history of Pearl Harbour while enjoying a decent amount of downtime to soak up the sun and do some paddle boarding!  Hawaii is officially on our list of places we would LOVE to live.

Most recently, we vacationed in Singapore. Living in Asia has it's perks of relatively affordable travel to nearby countries and often times it's more affordable to fly to countries near Japan, then fly domestically within Japan! We chose Singapore on a last minute whim and it ended up being one of my top favorite places I've ever been. One of the things I enjoyed the most about Singapore is how diverse the cultures were there, and yet it's such a peaceful place. We visited a few tourist spots, but also took the chance to get lost, and see things we might not usually see off the beaten path. This is where my views on travel really changed... "A tourist travels to see what they have come to see. But a traveler see's what he sees."

Yes, there's a harness... I'm overly cautious and don't take any risks of our little guy slipping away in an instant.

We have two really exciting trips planned for the rest of the year and our recent travels will certainly play a part in the things we do on these trips!
